Fraisthorpe Wind Farm in Bridlington, located 40 miles east of York, began full commercial operations in June 2016. The consented site owned by BayWa r.e. was bought from the previous developer back in December 2014. The development was then finalised and construction commenced in March 2015.

The wind farm consists of nine Vestas 3.3 MW V112MW turbines and associated infrastructure. Katy Hogg, Managing Director, BayWa r.e. UK, stated that the BayWa r.e. UK Wind Projects team had worked hard over the last 18 months to implement the Fraisthorpe project on time and budget. “Our Operations and Commercial Management teams are now handling the day to day operational tasks in order to maximise energy yield and sustainable operations.

She added: “We have gladly taken up the previous developer’s community benefit offering for the wind farm, which will contribute over £1.5m to local projects over the lifetime of the wind farm”. The wind farm’s output is expected to supply enough clean, renewable energy to power the equivalent of 22,500 homes per year and avoid 48,500 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year.

To date, BayWa r.e. has developed over 1.4GW of onshore wind, solar PV and bioenergy projects worldwide, 380MW of which is in the UK, and currently manages over 2GW of renewable generating assets worldwide, 470MW of which is in the UK. The UK division has recently expanded its Technical and Commercial Management Services offering to third parties and is growing rapidly in this space.
