A first for aviation, a first for energy
More than a year after its initial take-off, the Solar Impulse 2 aircraft has landed in Abu Dhabi this morning – completing its round-the-world, 25,000 mile journey. The solar powered aircraft first took-off from the UAE in March 2015 and has since landed in 16 different locations including India, China, the US and Spain.

Solar Impulse 2 awaits fair weather in Chongqing
Earlier this month, we brought you the story of Solar Impulse 2, the world's first fuel-free, solar-powered aeroplane. From its initial take-off in Abu Dhabi, Solar Impulse has successfully completed flight legs to Muscat, Ahmedabad, Varanasi and Mandalay, prior to its most recent landing in Chongqing, where poor weather conditions have temporarily halted its progress.

From the Wright Brothers' first powered flight in 1903, through the first solo global circumnavigation in 1933, to the proliferation of commercial aviation in the latter half of the 20th century, humanity has always held a special place in its heart for flight. On 9th March 2015, Solar Impulse 2 departed on the first leg of a groundbreaking mission: to fly around the world using only the power of the Sun.
