Digitiser cards aid acoustic wave research in US

The Acoustics Research Group at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Brigham Young University, USA is researching into the use of Time Reversal (TR) signal processing to focus waves sound with high amplitudes in a room. TR focuses waves to a selected location that converge from all directions to produce a virtual source of spherical waves and then diverge from that location.

Software solution clears digitiser data bottleneck

Currently digitisers have a bottleneck caused by having to use either the host PC’s central processor with eight or 16 cores or a FPGA that is complex to program. Spectrum Instrumentation says it has solved this problem with its SCAPP software option – the Spectrum CUDA Access for Parallel Processing – that opens an easy-to-use yet extremely powerful way to digitise, process and analyse electronic signals.

16-bit digitisers offer speed and channel options

A smooth technology upgrade path is always welcomed by engineers and it is a practice which is a founding principle of Spectrum Instrumentation. It is at the heart of a new digitiser platform launched by the company. The M2p will be the PCIe base for all upcoming products for the next years, while the new 59xx module will be available in many variations. The M2p platform and 59xx module form 13 different new digitiser cards with lots of options r...

Arbitrary waveform generator aids Innsbruck University research

The Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information at the University of Innsbruck, Austria has chosen a Spectrum Arbitrary Waveform Generator (AWG) to generate a wide variety of signals for its research.  Because of the variety of experiments that it would be used for, it was important to have an AWG that is easy to program using a PC so that the output could be easily customised to each use.

AWGs tackle cost effective multi-channel signal generation

Advanced electronic systems are increasingly turning to parallel design architecture to increase their overall performance in applications such as MIMO, radar, quantum computing and multi-lane serial bus testing. To develop these systems, and those with similar multi-receiver/emitter or multi-sensor technology, it is helpful to have the ability to generate multiple synchronised waveforms.

Averaging function enhances digitiser range

A new function has been added to Spectrum’s range of modularly designed digitisers.  The Boxcar averaging function smooths out high frequency noise to give a clear signal.  It is most useful in situations where signals have been oversampled and it can be used to increase vertical resolution, lower noise and improve dynamic characteristics such as signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and spurious free dynamic range (SFDR).
