Vattenfall and Coca-Cola in Sweden are investing in electric operation of heavy goods vehicles.

Businesses need to upgrade their electric infrastructure today in order to power electric transport fleets tomorrow, said energy firm Vattenfall.

Harbours and ports’ transition to full electrification will be a key contributor in reducing shipping’s output of greenhouse gases, said Vattenfall. Despite transporting around 80% of global trade, shipping accounts for a modest three percent of global greenhouse gas emissions.

In a new partnership, Vattenfall and Hyundai have made it possible for Dutch customers to purchase a future-proof charging point and charge card from Vattenfall. This is done at the Hyundai dealer, when buying or leasing a KONA Electric or IONIQ Electric.

Vattenfall has been selected by Midlothian Council as its energy partner in a 50/50 joint venture set to drive the shift towards low carbon heating living in the region. The partnership’s first project will be the installation of an innovative district heating network which will provide heat to new homes at the Shawfair development with a carbon saving of 75% when compared with conventional gas boiler heating. 

Preem and Vattenfall have the shared goal of using hydrogen gas in the large-scale production of renewable fuel. The Swedish Energy Agency, through 'Industriklivet' (Industrial Evolution), will contribute half the cost of SEK 6 million for the preliminary planning of a new fossil-free hydrogen gas plant which, with a capacity of 18 megawatts, is expected to be the largest in Europe.

A ten year agreement to power Microsoft’s international data centre operations in the Netherlands with wind power has been signed by Vattenfall. The wind power supply deal is the first to date for Vattenfall to a data centre outside the Nordic countries and the largest in this field based entirely on wind power.
