An alternative way to store thermal energy

An alternative way to store thermal energy
In large parts of the developing world, people have abundant heat from the sun during the day, but most cooking takes place later in the evening when the sun is down, using fuel — such as wood, brush or dung — that is collected with significant time and effort. Now, a new chemical composite developed by researchers at MIT could provide an alternative.

Improving the efficiency of the trusted exisiting boilers

Improving the efficiency of the trusted exisiting boilers
Heating has been provided by oil and gas-fired boilers for many industrial and commercial premises for over 100 years. In that time the energy efficiency of these installations has increased steadily, however there is a way to significantly reduce energy consumption that is still not universally applied and yet has a typical payback period of less than 18 months.

Energy storage solutions show a sustainable future at Intersolar

Energy storage solutions show a sustainable future at Intersolar
Making an appearance at Intersolar 2017 Europe in June, Delta presented a broad portfolio of high efficiency PV inverters and battery energy storage solutions. The energy storage system ES30 series, is an all-in-one and highly scalable solution integrating li-ion batteries for up to 90kWh capacity with more than two hours of continuous 30kW back-up power. Also on show was the new high performance string PV inverter M88H series, featuring maximum 88kVA output power, peak efficiency up to 98.8%, active cooling and an electromagnetic interference (EMI)-proof design.

Smart energy storage will define the future of everything

Smart energy storage will define the future of everything
From smartphones to automobiles and the electric grid, energy storage is becoming more critical. For mobile devices, the need is clear for safe, longer lasting, energy dense chemistries. For automobiles, the move to hybrid, electric, and autonomous vehicles has increased the bounty to be had for denser and lighter storage. As for the electric grid, it stands to benefit from load balancing using a combination of the IoT (smart grid) and localised energy storage.

Energy storage system offers 85kWh rated capacity

Energy storage system offers 85kWh rated capacity
With the new lithium ion energy storage option – the BMZ Energy Storage Systems (ESS) – both private and commercial solar system operators have the ability to inexpensively store solar energy during the day, then use it in their own homes or businesses as needed. The new storage system, designated ESS 9.0, has a rated capacity of 85kWh and a lower specific price than its little brother, the ESS 7.0.

2D polymer could revolutionise energy storage

2D polymer could revolutionise energy storage
A research team from the National University of Singapore (NUS) has successfully pushed the frontier of polymer technology further by creating novel 2D graphene-like polymer sheets. "In the last century, scientists have successfully developed molecules which can be crosslinked to form one-dimensional and three-dimensional polymers. These are used to produce a wide range of technological products.
