Parasol uses solar panels to charge EVs

Peugeot Design Lab teams have implemented a project that develops the innovation and the environmental orientation of the DRIVECO Parasol. The wooden lattice structure accommodating the 150m² of solar panels forms a canopy, while the flared bases of the Parasol smoothly integrate the charging points and electricity storage batteries. This project has harnessed the skills of designers, 3D modellers and colour and materials experts.

The DRIVECO Parasol is a charging station comprising 88 photovoltaic panels and lithium ion batteries for generating and storing solar energy. The electricity can be redistributed round the clock even in periods of low sun intensity and shared in a network of several Parasols by means of a 'smart grid' intelligent energy management system. Each Parasol is universal and can charge up to 7 vehicles - cars, scooters or bicycles - simultaneously 7 days a week and 24 hours a day. The charging time depends on the selected mode: quick or normal.

The partnership between Peugeot Design Lab and DRIVECO strengthens PEUGEOT’s commitment to electric mobility with a zero CO2 emission target from producer to consumer. Since 2010, PEUGEOT has been marketing a range of electric vehicles for all uses: bicycles, private iOn vehicles and utility vehicles with the electric Partner. As from April 2015, PEUGEOT has been offering the Electric Box, which includes one PEUGEOT iOn and one electric bicycle for €99 per month.

After a Parasol was commissioned on 14 March at Bastia, DRIVECO is today inaugurating the first smart solar road in the world, with a second Parasol being commissioned at Ajaccio.
