World's Largest Offshore Wind Farm Launches With 175 Siemens Wind Turbines

Today marks the inauguration of the world's largest offshore wind power plant, London Array. Siemens supplied the 175 wind turbines and the grid connection for London Array. Together with Dong Energy, Siemens will also be responsible for the service of the wind turbines through a long-term agreement. The wind power plant owned, developed and built by a consortium consisting of Dong Energy, E.ON and Masdar has a total capacity of 630 megawatts (MW) and will generate enough power to supply 500,000 British households with clean electricity. London Array will reduce annual CO2 emissions by approximately 900,000 tons, which equals the emissions of 300,000 passenger cars.

Saft Deliver Reliable Power To Wind Turbine LED Emergency Lighting Units

Saft have today announced delivery of 4,000 nickel-metal hydride battery packs to Spain’s IED Green Power. The specialist electronics manufacturer for the wind energy sector has selected Saft’s rechargeable AA-sized VHT batteries to power its new generation LVD waterproof LED emergency lighting units for installation in wind generators, where the harsh conditions prevent the reliable operation of traditional lighting systems.

Mitsubishi Electric introduces its 6th generation Mega Power Dual Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor modules. The modules, which are for use in power converters such as large-capacity photovoltaic and wind power generation systems, are also suitable for other high-power applications e.g. in the areas of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems and AC motor control.

Lanner Electronics unveiled the LEC-3000 series, a full range of fanless power communication platforms. This series includes both DIN-railed and rack-mount platforms. DIN-rail platforms consist of the LEC-3070, LEC-3010, and LEC-3012. The LEC-3100 (1U), LEC-3110 (1U), LEC-3200 (2U) and LEC-3210 (2U) have rack-mount form factors.
