Contract for world’s biggest offshore wind farm

Contract for world’s biggest offshore wind farm
JDR Cables has won a multi-million pound contract to supply inter-array cables and termination work for Ørsted’s record-breaking offshore wind farm, Hornsea Project Two. When operational in 2022, the wind farm will supply clean electricity to over 1.3 million homes, and surpass its sister project Hornsea One, as the world’s largest offshore wind farm. The contract includes 100km (around the same distance as Hartlepool to Leeds) of inter-array cables, all to be assembled in JDR’s Hartlepool facility.

Five-year agreement to optimise wind turbine foundations

Five-year agreement to optimise wind turbine foundations
In order to optimise the design of foundation structures for offshore wind turbines, Ørsted and the University of Oxford have signed a five-year research agreement. Continuing to drive down costs is critical for the offshore wind industry and Ørsted is working with several universities to help improve the design and performance of offshore wind turbines. A major collaboration on wind turbine design is currently ongoing with Durham University and this new agreement with the University of Oxford will focus specifically on the foundation design.

Full power output achieved at offshore wind farm

Full power output achieved at offshore wind farm
Electrifying news just in from Ørsted’s Race Bank Offshore Wind Farm! Full power output has been achieved at the North Norfolk wind farm. Installation of the wind turbines at Race Bank first began in May 2017 and following successful completion of the 240-hour acceptance tests of all 91 turbines, and the 200-hour test of the full park, the project is now capable of generating its full capacity of 573MW.

Lowering the cost of offshore wind turbines

Lowering the cost of offshore wind turbines
Results of a new research project has shown how offshore wind turbine foundations can be designed in a smarter way to reduce production costs, that will ultimately make the alternative power source cheaper. The Ørsted-led PISA research project has now been rewarded with the Fleming award from the British Geotechnical Association.
